Calendar in WhatsApp: Turn Chat Plans into Events and Reminders (2026)
WhatsApp handles the chat part well. It just doesn't come with a calendar. Agree on a time, a call, a dinner — the message scrolls up, and come Thursday nobody remembers if it was 6 or 7. Below: what WhatsApp Events do today, where they stop, and how a calendar in WhatsApp finally works once you add Aivi — plans spotted in your chats, added to your calendar in one tap.

Does WhatsApp have a calendar?
- Partly. WhatsApp has Events in groups and communities — and, on many phones now, in one-to-one chats too. You create each event by hand: title, date, time, place, call link. Everyone invited can reply whether they're going, and WhatsApp sends a reminder before it starts (as of October 2026).
- For your actual calendar: install Aivi, link WhatsApp yourself through its official Linked Devices feature, and connect Google Calendar. Aivi spots meetings and tasks in your chats — groups included — and offers to add them to your calendar in one tap.
Is there a calendar option in WhatsApp?
Not a full one. WhatsApp doesn't have a calendar screen, but it does have Events — one event at a time, created by hand inside a chat.
WhatsApp first added Events to communities, then to groups, and in 2025 started testing them in one-to-one chats. As of October 2026 the feature is official in groups and communities; in private chats it is still rolling out, so it may or may not be on your phone yet.
In a group or community, choose Event in the attachment menu. You fill in:
- Title — "Team sync", "Mum's birthday".
- Date and time, with an optional end time.
- Description — the agenda or a short note.
- Place or a WhatsApp call link.
- A reminder that goes to everyone invited (early reminders for groups arrived at the start of 2026).
Everyone in the chat sees the event card. Everyone invited can say whether they're going, and WhatsApp reminds them before it starts.
What WhatsApp Events still can't do
A single screen with everything you've been invited to isn't there yet. WhatsApp is testing an Events section in Android settings (beta, as of September 2026), but on most phones each event only lives inside the chat it was made in.
- No central calendar view. You scroll back through chats to find what's coming up.
- No sync with your calendar. As of October 2026 we found no official two-way sync between WhatsApp Events and Google Calendar.
- Nothing from your chat becomes an event by itself. Fifty messages agreeing on 7pm Friday are still just messages — someone has to tap, type and set it.
- Not everywhere yet. In one-to-one chats the Event option is still rolling out, so it may not be on your phone.
How do I add a schedule on WhatsApp?
Short answer: use Events in a group or community chat — WhatsApp's own way to schedule something for several people at once.
- Open the group or community chat.
- Open the attachment menu (➕ on iPhone, the paperclip on Android) and choose Event.
- Enter the title, start time and place or a WhatsApp call link.
- Add an early reminder so everyone gets a ping before it starts.
- Send it. The event lands in the chat, and everyone invited can reply whether they're going.
That covers the plan. It doesn't cover you — the event sits in that chat, not in your calendar. Which is where most "wait, was that Thursday or Friday?" moments come from.
How do I link a calendar to WhatsApp?
As of October 2026 we found no official way to link Google Calendar directly to WhatsApp. People get around that in three ways:
- By hand. Create a WhatsApp Event, then open Google Calendar and type the same thing again. Easy to miss half of them.
- Through third-party automations — Zapier-style flows, mostly built for WhatsApp Business. Doable, but you set up each rule yourself, and they only catch messages that match it.
- Through an AI assistant that reads your chats on your side, spots the plan, and offers to add it to your calendar. That is what Aivi does.
Whichever you pick, the conversation itself stays where the people are — in the chat.
How can I integrate WhatsApp and Google Calendar?
Two routes work today: a third-party automation built around rules you set up, or an assistant like Aivi that picks up plans from your messages and offers to add them to your calendar, including Google Calendar.
The automation route (Zapier-style tools, mostly for WhatsApp Business):
- You set up a rule for a specific signal — a keyword, a form, a booking link.
- When a message matches, the flow writes an event into your Google Calendar.
- Everything outside that signal — the usual "let's grab coffee Friday at 4" — slips through.
The Aivi route is less code and more conversation. Aivi reads your WhatsApp and Telegram on your side, notices a plan — a meeting, a call, a deadline, a task — and offers to add it to your calendar — Aivi's own, with Google Calendar connected if you use it. One tap, your call. Nothing is sent to your contact.
What does a chat-aware calendar in WhatsApp look like with Aivi?
Aivi is an AI assistant for iPhone and Android that works on top of your WhatsApp and Telegram. For planning it does two things: it watches for plans in your chats, and it keeps them in a calendar you can trust.
Plans spotted in your chats
A meeting, a call, a dinner, a deadline — Aivi notices it and offers to add it as an event or a task. One tap, your call.
Group chats, quietly
Aivi works in group chats too — it understands who said what. The group sees nothing. Nothing is posted into the chat.
Reminders you'll actually get
"I'll send it by Friday" becomes a task with a due date and a reminder. You can also just ask: remind me tomorrow at 9 to call Anna.
Google Calendar, in sync
Connect Google Calendar and your events live in one place. Aivi has its own calendar and task list; Google Calendar makes it the same calendar you already use.
Your day, every morning
Each morning Aivi shows your meetings and tasks for the day in one place.
Reminders come from Aivi
Nothing is written back into WhatsApp. Reminders ping you in Aivi, not in the chat with your contact.
Only you see Aivi's suggestion. The group chat stays exactly as it was.
How do you turn chats into calendar events with Aivi?
Four steps. After that, Aivi just watches the chats you've connected and offers to add plans when it sees them.
- Install Aivi from the App Store or Google Play, and sign in with your Apple or Google account.
- Link WhatsApp yourself through WhatsApp's official Linked Devices feature — the same one WhatsApp Web uses. Aivi never asks for your WhatsApp password or SMS code.
- Connect Google Calendar in Aivi, so your events stay in the calendar you already check.
- Chat as usual. When Aivi spots a meeting or a task in a chat, it offers to add it — one tap on your side.
How does a calendar in WhatsApp compare: Events, automations, Aivi
WhatsApp Events handle the group side well; third-party automations fill a narrow gap; Aivi turns plans from any chat — one-to-one or group — into entries in your own calendar.
| WhatsApp Events | Third-party automations | Aivi | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Where it lives | Inside the chat it was made in | Depends on the tool | In your own calendar — Aivi and Google Calendar |
| Catches plans in regular messages | No — each event is created by hand | Only messages that match rules you set up | Yes — meetings, calls, deadlines, group plans |
| Works in group chats | Yes — a shared event, visible to everyone | Depends on the tool | Yes — only you see the suggestion; the group sees nothing |
| Reminder before it starts | Yes, to everyone invited | Depends on the tool | Yes, to you — in Aivi |
| Google Calendar sync | No official link as of October 2026 | Yes, for flows you build | Yes — connect once |
| Your morning plan in one place | No central view yet (a beta is testing one) | No | Yes — meetings and tasks for the day |
| Price | Free, inside WhatsApp | Varies by service | Free to download; subscription for ongoing use |
The short version: keep using WhatsApp Events for things you want the whole group to see. Add Aivi for everything agreed in a message that would otherwise be forgotten by Friday.
Who gets the most out of a calendar in WhatsApp?
Anyone whose plans live in WhatsApp instead of in a calendar:
- Families and parents — birthdays, school runs, the dentist on Thursday, grandparents visiting Sunday.
- Freelancers and small teams — client calls agreed in a thread, deadlines dropped in passing, meetings swapped last minute.
- Groups and clubs — training on Tuesday, a trip in two weeks, the committee meeting next month.
- Anyone juggling several WhatsApp Communities — one calendar for all of them, instead of chasing events across chats.
Is it safe to connect a calendar to WhatsApp?
It can be, if the app never asks for your SMS code or password and you link WhatsApp yourself through its official Linked Devices feature. Steer clear of anything that asks for your phone number and WhatsApp code, or pushes a modified WhatsApp — that is how accounts get stolen.
Aivi works differently:
- Aivi never asks for your WhatsApp password or SMS code — you link it yourself in WhatsApp → Linked Devices.
- Your messenger passwords never reach our servers.
- We keep no archive of your messages: your chats stay on your phone. Aivi sends only the text it needs to AI services — never your email, phone or contact list.
- Aivi never sends anything without you — nothing is posted into your WhatsApp chats.
- Unlink anytime: in WhatsApp under Linked Devices, in Telegram under Devices.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a calendar option in WhatsApp?
Partly. WhatsApp has Events in groups and communities — and is rolling them out in one-to-one chats on many phones. You still create each event by hand, and there's no central calendar screen inside WhatsApp as of October 2026.
How do I link a calendar to WhatsApp?
As of October 2026 we found no official way to link Google Calendar to WhatsApp. People bridge it with third-party automations (mostly built for WhatsApp Business) or with an assistant like Aivi, which spots plans in your chats and offers to add them to your calendar — one tap.
How do I add a schedule on WhatsApp?
Open a group or community chat, choose Event in the attachment menu, fill in the title, date and time, and send it. Everyone invited can reply whether they're going, and WhatsApp reminds them before it starts. For a plan agreed in a one-to-one chat your phone can't turn into an event yet, Aivi can save it to your calendar instead.
How can I integrate WhatsApp and Google Calendar?
Two routes work today. A third-party automation can create Google Calendar events from messages that match rules you set up — mostly for WhatsApp Business. Aivi takes a different route: it reads your chats on your side, offers to add the plans it finds to your calendar with Google Calendar connected, and leaves the chat untouched.
Can WhatsApp Events sync with Google Calendar?
Not through an official WhatsApp setting as of October 2026. Any sync today goes through a third-party automation or a chat-aware assistant like Aivi, which can add the same plan to Google Calendar in one tap.
Does Aivi work in group chats?
Yes. Aivi can watch group chats as well as one-to-one ones. It understands who said what, and only you see the suggestion to add a plan to your calendar. The group sees nothing, and Aivi never posts anything in the chat.
How much does Aivi cost?
Free to download and try. Ongoing use needs a subscription — $9.99 a month on the standard plan in the US, with prices that vary by country. You always see the price in the app before you pay.
Does Aivi need my WhatsApp password?
No. Aivi never asks for your WhatsApp password or SMS code — you link WhatsApp yourself through its official Linked Devices feature, the same one WhatsApp Web uses. Your messenger passwords never reach our servers.
