WhatsApp AI vs Telegram AI: Does Telegram Have AI Like WhatsApp in 2026?
Two different AIs in two different apps. If you live in both WhatsApp and Telegram, the question isn't "which AI is smarter" — it's which one does what, where it ends, and whether you need something that works alongside both at once.

Does Telegram have AI like WhatsApp — and which is better?
- Meta AI is Meta's assistant built into WhatsApp — ask questions, search, generate images (where available).
- Telegram AI is a set of features Telegram added to the Telegram app in 2026: AI Summaries for channels, AI Editor for your text, mentionable AI bots, and Chat Automation that can reply on your behalf.
- They are two different AIs in two different apps — they don't share context, and they don't see each other's chats.
- "Better" depends on where you spend your time. Pick WhatsApp AI if you live in WhatsApp, Telegram AI if you live in Telegram.
- If you live in both messengers, a separate app that works alongside both can help. Aivi is one such app.
What is Meta AI in WhatsApp?
Meta AI is a voice-and-text assistant from Meta built into WhatsApp. You can ask it questions, search for things through it, and generate images where that's available. It lives in its own chat with Meta AI, and you can call it into a group chat by typing @Meta AI.
The rollout has been staged. Meta AI launched in the US in April 2024 on Llama 3, reached six more countries — Brazil, the UK, the Philippines, Bolivia, Guatemala and Paraguay — in October 2024, and arrived in the EU and UK in March 2025 with limits (text only, six languages at launch). It has kept rolling out through 2025 and 2026.
Meta AI is available in a growing list of countries. The list is still changing in 2026, so the simplest way to check is to open WhatsApp — if the Meta AI icon (a blue circle) appears in your chats list, you have it. If you don't see it, it's not available in your region yet.
One thing worth clearing up: Meta AI doesn't read all of your WhatsApp chats. It answers inside its own Meta AI chat, and in group chats only when someone explicitly mentions it with @Meta AI. Image generation is available in some countries and not in others — same growing list.
Meta AI isn't the only way to see AI inside WhatsApp. Businesses can run their own AI chatbots through the WhatsApp Business API — these are separate services from Meta AI, built by third parties, and they only answer in the chats you've opted into.
What is Telegram AI?
Telegram AI isn't one feature. It's a set of AI functions Telegram added to the Telegram app through 2026 — not 2025, as some older write-ups still say. For a deeper read on the whole set, see Telegram AI: the complete guide for 2026.
AI Summaries (January 2026)
AI Summaries condense long channel posts and Instant View articles down to a short recap. They don't work on private chats — you can't ask Telegram to summarise a one-to-one conversation. Summaries run on Cocoon, Telegram's decentralised network of open-source models, and requests are encrypted. Free for everyone.
AI Editor (March 2026)
AI Editor sits right in the message bar. You type something, then let the editor translate it, transform the tone, fix it up, or emojify it before you hit send. The text is yours — the AI only reshapes it. Free for everyone; Telegram Premium raises the daily limits by 50×, which helps if you translate a lot.
Guest AI Bots (May 2026)
You can @-mention any AI bot in a private or group chat. The bot sees only the message you tagged it on and the replies to that message — not the rest of the chat. It's an on-demand way to pull in an AI without giving it the whole conversation. Free for everyone.
Chat Automation (May 2026)
In Settings → Chat Automation you can connect a bot that replies to people on your behalf. This is a real difference worth naming: Chat Automation can send messages for you; a lot of assistants outside Telegram, Aivi included, deliberately don't. If you want AI that answers your friends when you're asleep, Chat Automation is where it lives.
Telegram's AI features are free for everyone. Telegram Premium (around $4.99/mo depending on country) gives Premium users 50× higher daily limits on AI Editor — useful if you translate or transform a lot of messages, but you don't need Premium to use Telegram's AI.
A couple of things the built-in Telegram AI doesn't do, worth putting straight: it doesn't generate images (that's left to third-party bots), and AI Summaries don't apply to private chats — only channels and Instant View pages.
Side-by-side: Meta AI, Telegram AI, Aivi
Rather than ranking who's smarter, here's where each one lives and what it covers — in one view.
The last row is the one that usually decides it. Meta AI stops at the edge of WhatsApp. Telegram AI stops at the edge of Telegram. Neither sees the other's chats — because they aren't meant to.
Which one is better for you?
The honest answer is: it depends on where you actually spend your time. Three short profiles below.
If you mostly live in WhatsApp
Meta AI is the simplest answer — if it's available where you are. Open WhatsApp; if the blue Meta AI circle shows up in your chats list, you're set. If the icon isn't there yet, your region hasn't been turned on. Third-party AI chatbots that run through the WhatsApp Business API are another path, but they're separate services, not Meta AI.
If you mostly live in Telegram
Telegram AI gives you more surface area in the chat itself. AI Editor sits on your drafts, AI Summaries cover long channel posts, and @-mentioning an AI bot pulls in help without handing it the whole conversation. All of it is free. Telegram Premium is useful mainly if you lean on AI Editor every day — the 50× limit kicks in there.
If you live in both messengers
This is where a separate app that connects to both starts to make sense. One place to translate from either side. One list of chats, no flipping apps. Aivi is one such app — alongside your WhatsApp and Telegram, with one chat and one list. More: use cases across both messengers.
One assistant alongside both — Aivi
Aivi gives you one list of chats across WhatsApp and Telegram, one chat with Aivi, and one Today card with your meetings and tasks for the day. Aivi translates messages both ways in a chat, drafts replies that stay in your hands, catches dates in a message and offers to add them to your calendar, and can read a long voice note out to you.
A couple of concrete moments: a Russian supplier writes to you on WhatsApp while a Spanish client pings you on Telegram — Aivi translates both sides in-chat, no copy-paste. A friend says "Thursday 3pm works" in a group — Aivi spots the plan and offers to drop it in your calendar.
How it connects. Link WhatsApp yourself through its official Linked Devices feature — the same one WhatsApp Web uses. Telegram connects through its official sign-in, with the code sent by Telegram itself. Aivi never asks for your WhatsApp password or SMS code.
What Aivi doesn't do. Aivi doesn't replace Meta AI, and it doesn't replace Telegram AI. Aivi isn't a bot inside WhatsApp or Telegram — it's a separate app on your phone. Aivi doesn't post anything in your chats without you.
No WhatsApp password, ever
Aivi never asks for your WhatsApp password or SMS code.
Credentials stay off our servers
Your messenger passwords never reach our servers: Telegram sign-in goes from your phone straight to Telegram.
No archive of your messages
We keep no archive of your messages: your chats stay on your phone.
Nothing sent without you
Aivi never sends anything without you — it only drafts.
